The Children's Earn-A-Computer Program

To earn a computer the child must attend a series of six classes of about two hours each. The classes are held at the ByteWORKS lab at 4100 Shenandoah and are conducted by our volunteers. Our lab is a room of approximately 14 computers each running the Debian distribution of GNU/Linux with the KDE Desktop Environment.

Our current coursework covers the following topics:

If you are a parent or guardian and would like to have your child participate in our Earn-A-Computer Children's Program, you may contact us at the number at the top of this page. If necessary, leave a message and we will return your call as soon as possible. Or, you may also email us at childrensprogram@bworks.org and someone will return your email as soon as possible. Please be aware that the children's Earn-A-Computer program is in demand and there is usually a waiting list.

The Adult's Earn-A-Computer Program

In addition to the Children's program, ByteWORKS offers a series of classes for adults. This is an excellent introductory program for those adults interested in learning more about computers and the software skills needed to succeed in today's tech-centric business environment.

Registration for the adult program is $49 and includes seven classes on the following topics:

After successful completion of the program, adult students receive one computer, which includes monitor, keyboard, sound card, video card, modem and all cords and cables, with a Microsoft operating system.

Our adult classes are generally held on Wednesdays at 5 PM and last approximately two hours per session. For further information including when the next scheduled set of classes begin, feel free to call or email adultprogram@bworks.org in regards to this excellent opportunity. There may be a waiting list for this class.
